Our Employment Program helps adults with disabilities work independently, at competitive wages, at an integrated employment setting.
At UCP, we take a different approach for our Employment Program, one that is customizable. We meet with the individual looking for employment and invite their family and natural support systems, which could be siblings or friends, to attend the meeting as well. Together we determine what might be the best fit for employment for the individual, based on several factors like: core interests, proximity to the employment site and the integrated work environment.
We then reach out to our local business partners to determine if there’s a match. When we discover one, we set up a “trial employment” period where employees can learn and hone their skills, alongside an employment specialist. The individuals in our work programs are bagging groceries, stocking shelves and conducting clerical duties.
To be eligible for our Employment Program, participants must be receiving funding from the MA Department of Developmental Services (DDS) and be at least 22 years old.
We help adults prepare for every aspect of employment
- For the job interview, we teach individuals how to write a cover letter and resume and we coach them on how to dress and conduct the interview.
- Once they are employed, we offer on-the-job oversight to both the employee and the employer.
- As they advance their careers, we offer continued employment support as needed.
- We also make referrals for assistive technology needed for workplace modifications for mobility, low vision, hearing, or other pertinent conditions.
The goal is to enable adults with disabilities to be able to do the job independently.
